Category: Let's talk
Dreams, we all have them and for me they are always bizarre. I was talking to a fellow zoner a few days ago when this topic came up. This person mentioned hearing and smelling in their dreams. Now I dream but never ever do I recall smelling or hearing voices in my dreams. I’ve talked to people in my dreams but never hear their voice, I just imply what’s being said. I’m wondering if this is a normal dram experience or am I the only one that dreams this way?
Bug,
I hear, smell, even see in my dreams, can't explain the site part, this doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, it's quite wierd.

apparently, it's scientifically proven, in some wacky way, that nobody ever smells in their dreams. I know that I've never been able to smell in my dreams because, every time I've been trying to in a dream, I'd get really freaked out that I couldn't. My sight's always stayed the same. All I can see is light when I'm awake, and that doesn't change when I'm asleep. I can definitely hear in my dreams. I know this because of the scariest dream I ever had, where people started randomly shooting at me. I didn't know anyone was there an I started hearing guns, random or what.
I can hear and feel in my dreams but that's about it I also have a sensation of speed as if I'm running, falling or travelling quickly, the feeling is very intense and quite frightening especially if I'm falling.
I never really pay attention to whether I can smell in dreams, but I can tell you for sure that I can hear and feel in my dreams. I am totally blind, and that doesn't change in my dreams.
Interesting. I'm not sure why I can't hear voices or smell in my dreams. I just see, as I am sighted, and feel most of the time in my dreams.
Hi Bug,
well I don't remember smelling in my dreams. But I have heard voices in my dreams, but I can't remember a lot that was said in them. I have never seen anything in my dreams, but I have walked normally in them, although in waking hours, I have to use a walker, or at least have to have something strong and solid to hold on to to keep from falling. If I take over one or 2 steps without holding on to something, I feel sort of staggery, like I'm going to fall at any minute, but I have actually walked in my dreams, and even moved quite fast. I don't know why this is. Perhaps its because before I had the rods put in my legs and had the leg braces put on, and even before we had the car accident that made my right knee not straighten out all the way, I could walk some without holding to anything.

Hi Bug, when I dream, I can see, but like you, I can't smell anything. It's weird. My dreams are always crazy, as if I'm in an entirely different world or something and I've never been able to figure out why. The funny thing is that I can hear other people's voices, but I can't hear my own but I still know what I'm saying. :P Another weird fact about me is that I don't dream that often.
Hi BugBug and All. In my dreams, I can definitely hear and feel and like Goblin, I feel sensations of speed often, as though I'm walking, running, falling or floating and other random things. But I never smell. I'm sure I can hear though, because, like Sugar, I had this really random bad dream where my friend got murdered in this foreign country. I heard eveyrone like screaming and crying and it was soooo freaky! Tha'ts the only nightmare I've ever had in my life. But I've also had dreams hwere I'm floating in a balloon, or on a roller coaster. Once I had a dream I was falling down a mountain! Lol. And I can't see in my dreams, even light, which I do see, I can see light, dark and shadows in real life, but for soem reason, I never remmeber seeing in my dreams. Caitlin
Hi Bug. Yes, I can hear in my dreams but I can't see at all while dreaming. Probably this has something to do with the fact that I'm blind. And yeah, I can feel in my dreams as well. Once I dreamed that I was on a beach and there was a tsunami. So I ran as fast as I could, guided by a sighted friend of mine, and eventually an enormous wave hit my back and knocked me down. Of course when I woke up I was really scared. God I even felt the water on my whole body. that's one of the weirdest dreams I've ever had and I hope it never repeats. Laters, joaquín
Hi guys... hm, interesting. My dreams are really weird in that I don't actually dream in scenes. It's not at all like watching a movie, or anything of the kind. Rather, nothing is really happening in my dreams, except for vague feelings of knowing stuff. For example, I don't hear or smell or see a person at all, but somehow I just know they are there, and moreover, I know they are unhappy with me :-). It's a static state more than a developing story.
I must be really strange, I can definitely see in my dreams although in reality I only have light perception. I can hear as well, although feeling and smelling are definitely dulled. I do react very emotionally in dreams though, it quite often carries over to wakefulness. Those are the worst.
hmmm. i can see in my dreams and i can defentially hear in my dreams. sometimes though i cant feel; im numb. and everything goes slow. and i cant run or swim or scream or any of that. and my dreams normally consist of someone i love dying, failing a class, almost being raped, seeing jesus, falling in love or something, or just weird stuff that doesnt make sense.
I never see in my dreams, not even the limited amount of light perception I have in waking hours. I don't even feel my body in my dreams most of the time. I know I'm walking, can kind of... sense when I run into things, but it's almost like I'm remotely controlling my body. I can hear in my dreams, and even when a voice doesn't sound at all familiar, some part of me says "You know this person!" Dreams are weird.
Interesting, Tyr Meister, we both have light perception, and can't see our dreams. Hmmm.
Those dreams that consist only of the sensation of falling are annoying. They always wake me and leave me frightened for a bit. They're not too frequent, fortunately. Otherwise, my memorible dreams have some sound, tactile sensations and emotion. Most of them must be boring. Only the disturbing ones are remembered.

i love the dreams where i jump offa somethin... but i havent had one of those in a long time. also i have scary dreams that i hafta go back to the texas school for the blind, or all the students come from there to my school, and i get stocked by certain people who i will not mention, and i get harassed, and im scared outa my wits! hate them dang dreams!
Um, i can hear, and feel in my dreams, I thought I'd seen in my dream once, but as I've never seen,... I dunno. it was wierd. But I don't think I've ever smelled. i'll let ya know if it ever happens hahaha!
Interesting. Dreams are so bizarre and never make sense. Has anyone ever had a dream in third person? Where your watching yourself in the dream instead of being yourself? I can only recall that happening once, I was watching myself drive a car around my friends backyard as she chased me. Very strange.
In my dreams I can see and usually it feels like I'm awake. Like when I am awake, I will remember being at a place or reading a book, and then I will
remember that I had actually dreamed about it. *smiles* When I see though, it's usually what I think things would look like, since I used to be able to
see some but can't anymore in real life. Alsoo, when there is something like braille, I can usually end up reading it with my eyes, and that's what most
of the things I read are written in. I think that is weird, but it's still cool. *smiles*
Also, yes, I do have those dreams where I see myself doing things. It's like I can still be in the same room or something, but I 'm not actually doing
anything sometimes, and I just see myself interacting with whoever else there is or doing whatever I'm doing. It's kind of weird though, because I usually
like to write down what happens in my dreams, but sometimes, I can't remember wheter I was actually doing anything, or is I was watching myself doing something.

I had a strange dream about a counselor at a camp I was at. It was a counselor I didn't like, and I dreamed I was a cat and she was a mouse, and I was about to get her, but then I woke up before I could, lol. I thought this was strange, because I would've thought if I dreamed about people, especially ones that I didn't care for, I would've thoughtthey'd be trying to do things to me and not the other way around. I have dreamed of falling off of a high building before, and woke up just before I hit the ground.

Hi,
Well in dreams I can usually see, but still use a cane to get around. It is weird to see myself using a cane but being able to see everything around me. As for smelling or feeling I can't recall ever doing that sighted or blind. And I have never had a third person dream either.
BB
I've never had a third person dream either. I don't remember ever smelling anything in my dreams, but I've heard, and even heard voices and what they were saying, and when I've had the falling dream, I could feel the sensation of falling.

oh man... i had another tx school for the blind dream last night... joy
I can hear and feel in my dreams and I can also use my revidual sight. It's amazing how a lot of things that happened/happen/will happen appear in your dreams. For example, if something really special and exciting will happen soon, you dream about it more and more often the nearer it comes. When I was younger I dreamed more about flying or things like that, now I'm dreaming a bit more realistic things. I don't often have nightmares though.
I don't really dream much now that I'm older for some reason. When I was in the orthopaedic hospital waiting to have my leg operations, for several nights in a row, I kept having this dream of floating, flying, I don't know which. I'd raise my arms upwards, and I'd float upwards. if I moved my arms backward, I'd glide backwards. I had that dream for several nights in a row, and when it stopped, I felt a bit depressed and let down. That was the only thing about going to bed that I had to look forward to.
I had this one reoccuring nightmare about a dog chasing me. I could hear the dog panting as he was coming after me, and to me, it sounded like he was hungry to get his teeth in to me. I would run until I'd run in to a wall, but then when I turned to run the other way, there would be a wall infront of me and on both sides, so when I turned completely around to go back the way I'd come, the dog would catch up to me, and the dream would end with the dog clamping his teeth on my finger, and me trying to get loose. That's when I'd wake up. It probably didn't feel like it would if a dog had actually got hold of my finger, I'm sure it would've hurt much worse.

I've never had a third person dream, Bugga. At least that i can remember. And awww Melmel sorry you have scary dreams sometimes. XOXOOXX lol! I haven't had falling dreams in awhile either. Maybe you get them more when you're younger. Or soemthing.
I once had a third person dream, a short time ago. I was watching a mother of three children drown in a river. That means, I didn't exactly see that. I watched as she ran down to the river, I woke up, fell asleep again and dreamt that the children told me that their mother had drowned in the river. That was horrible.
